that's all for tonight.

2020-10-19: da0a - after re-seating the CPU, the machine boots again, and I can ssh into it.

FreeBSD 8.2-STABLE (GENERIC) #0: Sun Aug 21 23:15:09 CEST 2011

Welcome to FreeBSD!

In order to make fetch (the FreeBSD downloading tool) ask for
username/password when it encounters a password-protected web page, you can set
the environment variable HTTP_AUTH to 'basic:*'.

nice!

2011-08-21: I upgraded to FreeBSD 8.2-stable, using csup and make world. dmesg output: normal, verbose.

root@blade1k# uname -a
FreeBSD blade1k.kg4.no 8.2-STABLE FreeBSD 8.2-STABLE #0: Sun Aug 21 23:15:09 CEST 2011     root@blade1k.kg4.no:/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/GENERIC  sparc64

2011-08-21: console - Ok, I had to edit /etc/rc.conf and add these lines:

font8x14="iso-8x14"
font8x16="iso-8x16"
font8x8="iso-8x8"
keymap="norwegian.iso"

no biggie.

2011-08-21: with my new 73.4 GB drive installed in the lower slot, I did a boot cdrom from OBP, using the a cd made from the FreeBSD-8.2-RELEASE-sparc64-disc1.iso image. The boot went straight into sysinstall, I did a standard install, everything went ok, and then I rebooted - straight into FreeBSD. Nice! A bit of configuration, and the machine now runs FreeBSD 8.2-release:

$ uname -a
FreeBSD blade1k.kg4.no 8.2-RELEASE FreeBSD 8.2-RELEASE #0: Thu Feb 17 06:57:44 UTC 2011     root@araz.cse.buffalo.edu:/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/GENERIC  sparc64
