History
2017-04-22: input VGA tested. I connected the VGA input to my Toshiba Satellite laptop, running Fedora, and configured display for "extend to right".
[tingo@localhost ~]$ xrandr Screen 0: minimum 8 x 8, current 3200 x 1080, maximum 32767 x 32767 eDP1 connected 1920x1080+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 290mm x 170mm 1920x1080 59.93*+ 48.00 1400x1050 59.98 1600x900 60.00 1280x1024 60.02 1280x960 60.00 1368x768 60.00 1280x720 60.00 1024x768 60.00 1024x576 60.00 960x540 60.00 800x600 60.32 56.25 864x486 60.00 640x480 59.94 720x405 60.00 640x360 60.00 DP1 connected 1280x1024+1920+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 380mm x 300mm 1280x1024 60.02*+ 75.02 1152x864 75.00 1024x768 75.03 70.07 60.00 832x624 74.55 800x600 72.19 75.00 60.32 640x480 75.00 72.81 59.94 720x400 70.08 DP2 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) HDMI1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) HDMI2 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) VIRTUAL1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
It is shown here as DP1 (eDP1 is the internal laptop monitor). So, VGA works, and the image on the LCD monitor is ok. The display doesn't rotate automatically when I pivot it, but I can run
[tingo@localhost ~]$ xrandr --output DP1 --rotate left
after pivoting it (to portrait mode)
[tingo@localhost ~]$ xrandr Screen 0: minimum 8 x 8, current 2944 x 1280, maximum 32767 x 32767 eDP1 connected 1920x1080+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 290mm x 170mm 1920x1080 59.93*+ 48.00 1400x1050 59.98 1600x900 60.00 1280x1024 60.02 1280x960 60.00 1368x768 60.00 1280x720 60.00 1024x768 60.00 1024x576 60.00 960x540 60.00 800x600 60.32 56.25 864x486 60.00 640x480 59.94 720x405 60.00 640x360 60.00 DP1 connected 1024x1280+1920+0 left (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 380mm x 300mm 1280x1024 60.02*+ 75.02 1152x864 75.00 1024x768 75.03 70.07 60.00 832x624 74.55 800x600 72.19 75.00 60.32 640x480 75.00 72.81 59.94 720x400 70.08 DP2 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) HDMI1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) HDMI2 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) VIRTUAL1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
and set
[tingo@localhost ~]$ xrandr --output DP1 --rotate normal
to get back to normal again. Very good.
2017-04-22: Every time there is a "dugnad" people discard lots of stuff. Electrical stuff gets collected and driven to recycling on a later day. This year, on spring "dugnad" I had an old non-working LCD monitor that I discarded, and found the L1940T in the pile of discarded objects. It looked ok, so I took it in and tested it. power works, VGA, DVI-D, usb hub.
