2016 archive.
2016-12-09: further testing with FreeBSD 11.0-release (booted from usb stick). from the loader prompt gop get says that mode 0 is in effect. gop list list the following modes:
mode 0: 1920x1080x32 mode 1: 640x480x32 mode 2: 800x600x32 mode 3: 1024x768x32 mode 4: 1280x1024x32
setting a different mode with gop set makes the console work again. gop set 1 turns off the display, you need to type 'boot' blind - but it works.
gop set 2,3 and 4 works without issues. Also gop set 2 followed by gop set 0 and finally boot works.
wireless - kldload iwm3160fw; kldload iwm
makes the wireless interface show up.
2016-12-09: I booted FreeBSD 11.0-release off a usb memory stick. Unfortunately, console output gets corrupted (gfx corruption) after the kernel loads, so the console is unreadable. ctrl-alt-del works, so keyboard input may be ok. It tried a FreeBSD 10.3-rlease usb stick too, but it wouldn't boot that one (it just tried booting Fedora instead).
2016-04-16: ada0p2 - xorg - I tried running "startx" with the intel driver selected in xorg.conf, but it still doesn't recognize Broadwell graphics. Relevant lines from /var/log/Xorg.0.log:

You need to install a driver for your smartcard reader e.g. devel/libccid security/ifd-slb_rf60 For cardreaders connected to the serial port: After installing the driver, please update the pcscd configuration file /usr/local/etc/reader.conf For USB cardreaders add the following lines to /etc/devd.conf to enable hotplugging. attach 100 { device-name "ugen[0-9]+"; action "/usr/local/sbin/pcscd -H"; }; detach 100 { device-name "ugen[0-9]+"; action "/usr/local/sbin/pcscd -H"; }; ------------------------------------------------------------------------
ok. start the pcscd daemon:

Next, plug in a card reader. I run pcsc_scan, the card reader is detected, and it also detects card insertion / removal. It doesn't seem like I have to add things to devd.conf.
