writing 40 tracks, 2 heads, 10 sectors, 512 bytes per sector, 400 kB total

so the floppy itself is ok. The issue must be with the Tiki 100 or the cable then.

2021-01-29: TTL RGB output - the color issue is due to bad connections in the DIN socket (or plug). If I press down on the plug I get correct colors. Unfortunately it doesn't stay correct. If I can't fix the pins in the socket, I might have to replace it.

2021-01-28: Tiki 100 - floppy drives - put back both drives in original configuration, more testing.

drive A: drive spins when accessed, and head moves (booting or doing a "KAT A:")

drive B: drive spins when acessed, but head does not move (trying a "KAT B:"). Without power, I can manually move the head assembly - easily.

2021-01-28: Tiki 100 - floppy drive B - jumpered it as DS0, and put it as the single drive on the cable (left side power and floppy cable, probably not needed). Not working - head not moving.

2021-01-28: Tiki 100 - floppy drives

A - Epson SD-521, no. 4-162593, label on flywheel: none. label on top PCB: 521E-REV.1A, U4410. Jumpers: DS0 jumpered. Termination in RA1: no.

B - Epson SD-521, no. 6-366494. label on flywheel: type DDF5-70A, 12 VDC, 0.9A Max. 300 RPM. label on top PCB: Rev. 1A, M521F20-U. Jumpers: DS1 jumpered. Termination in RA1: yes.

2021-01-26: Tiki 100 - the "B:" floppy drive appears to be non-working.

2021-01-26: c2 - I added definitions for Tiki 100 disk formats to /usr/local/share/cpmtools2/diskdefs:

# TIK1 TIKI-100 90K - SSSD 48 tpi 5.25" - 128 x 18
diskdef tik1
seclen 128
tracks 40
sectrk 18
blocksize 1024
maxdir 32
skew 5
boottrk 3
os 2.2
end

# TIK2 TIKI-100 200K - SSDD 48 tpi 5.25" - 512 x 10
diskdef tik2
seclen 512
tracks 40
sectrk 10
blocksize 1024
maxdir 64

os 2.2
end

# TIK3 TIKI-100 400K - DSDD 48 tpi 5.25" - 512 x 10
diskdef tik3
seclen 512

now I can do this:

tingo@kg-core2$ cpmls -f tik2 -l images/525-tiki_100_200k_ss_Tiki-Invaders.img

nice.

2021-01-26: more experiences - keyboard: it works, but some keys needs to be pressed hard to register, and sometimes registers double. Once, the machine hung - had to power off / on to recover.

2021-01-26: I connected my Tiki 100 to a RGB to HDMI converter ("HD Video Converter") with the RGB to SCART cable (used analog RGB), then to HDM1 on the Skantic B2010. I get video from the converter (menu choices) but no video from the Tiki 100. Tried the TTL RGB connector, and now I get a picture. The picture has a purple tint - looking at the world through rosy spectacles? For some reason, it has noise ("snow"), and the menu on the HD Video Converter shows up frequently.

2021-01-25: c2 - I used my FreeBSD workstation and the Tiki emulator to test those images. So far, they seem to work.

2021-01-25: z30b - I used my Debian laptop, FluxEngine and a Panasonic JU-475-3411 (80 track) floppy drive to image all floppies I got with the Tiki 100.

2019-02-26: I need to verify voltages and signals on the SCART cable.

2018-09-17: the OSSC - Open Souce Scan Converter (Github: marqs85/ossc) is interesting. Perhaps it can be used to convert the picture.

2015-07-07: Ineteresting info: there are cheap SCART to HDMI converters available: SCART/HDMI to HDMI video converter,

2015-05-12: checking the RGB-to-SCART cable. Pins of the DIN connector (looking at the pins from the mating end, with the "lock" up) are numbered from to left and around: 1, 4, 2, 5, 3 and pin 6 in the middle. For the SCART connector, odd numbered pins are on the shorter edge, and even numbered pins on the longer edge. Pin numbers start at the "straight" edge and ends at the edge with an angled face.

DIN SCART signal
1 15 red
2 7 blue
3 17, 18 ground (17 = comp. video gnd, 18 = blanking gnd)
4 11 green
5 20 sync (via 220 ohm)
6 16 blanking signal (via 75 ohm)

so the cable looks ok.

2015-05-11: I connected the Skantic B2010HD via the RGB to SCART cable, and selected EXT1 source on the TV (via remote control), but didn't get a picture. I also tried the TTL RGB connector on the Tiki - still no picture. Using the PAL video (composite) from the Tiki to the AV input (on the side of the B2010HD) I was able to get a picture. It's not great, but it is better than on the Compaq TFT 8030. Oh well.

2015-03-31: perhaps a FPGA based RGB2VGA will work? This card is quite cheap.

2015-03-06: I got the package with the HDMI to DVI cable (1.5m) from NetOnNet.

2015-03-01: I ordered a HDMI to DVI cable (1.5m) from NetOnNet, NOK 149.-

2015-03-01: video out on the Tiki-100 looks like this:

Analog RGB

Pinne Signal
1 Rød
2 Grønn
3 Blå
4 HSync (Sync)
5 Jord
6 +12V (VSync)

digital RGB (TTL) has the same signals, with the same pin numbering. Note: this pin numbering is seen from the connector at the back of the machine, with the "key" down and pins numbered from left and around the connector, and pin 6 in the middle. This is not the standard way pins on DIN connectors are numbered. With standard numbering

  • 1 red
  • 2 blue
  • 3 ground
  • 4 green
  • 5 HSync (Sync)
  • 6 +12V (VSync)

2015-02-28: From Digital Impuls, I bought a converter from component video + audio to HDMI (116126) for NOK 495.- Inputs are a bit different than described; it has YPbPr on RCA phono connectors and audio (R + L) on RCA phono connectors. The box it came in has the number "VH05" on the underside, but the converter itself is labeled "L8613610180". Perhaps it will work if I get a HDMI-to-VGA adapter as well, or a HDMI-to-DVI cable. Example: DVI-hunn til HDMI-hann (121826) + Skjermkabel DVI-D - DVI-D M/M 1m (114964) or HDMI cable (130680), HDMI cable (115094) + DVI hann - HDMI hunn (116644), Deltaco DVI-D til HDMI adapter (116455), Clas Ohlson: Exibel DVI-D til HDMI-adapter (38-1608) + DVI-D single-link-kabel (38-1622).

2015-02-24: test - I connected the machine to the video input of my Compaq TFT 8030 monitor, and turned it on. The Tiki-100 works, but picture quality is less than desirable. I will need a monitor with RGB inputs.

2015-02-24: info from the seller: the PCB is repaired (traces broken while changing keyboard), PSU - one AC filter capacitor is missing, one floppy drive (B) is not working (corrosion on controller card - possibly fixable),

2015-02-24: After work, I went to Majorstua and met a retro1.no user (FrodeM). He's from the south western part of the country, but he brought a machine with him on his holiday. I bought the machine for NOK 500, I also gave him NOK 200.- for hauling the machine. I got the machine, one RGB - to SCART cable, and a box of floppies (twelve in all):

  • 1 x Tiko 4.01, Tikos 2.00/25
  • 1 x MS-DOS 2.11, Tiki-100 8/16
  • 1 x Verdensgeografi - startes automatisk fra tom maskin
  • 1 x Tiki-Invaders (200k)
  • 1 x Turbo-Pascal version 3.01A, Tiki-100 (400k)

all floppies are 400k, unless otherwise noted.
