History

2021-10-27: LineageOS - update 21. oktober 2021, download, install, reboot, working.

2021-04-19: LineageOS - update 16. april 2021, download, install, reboot, working. Install failed the first time, so I had to reset the phone (power button held) and try one more time.

2021-04-19: LineageOS - update 9. april 2021, download, install, reboot, working.

2021-03-28: LineageOS - update 26. mars 2021, download, install, reboots a few times. Then the phome is usable again.

2021-03-28: LineageOS - update 19. mars 2021, download, install, reboots a couple of times. Then: boot up, show initial screen, screen turns black. It turns on with a short press on the power button. After a while it looks like the phone works again

2020-07-06: reboot - the phone reboots, and starts the normal install procedure (connect to mobile network - skipped, connect to WiFi - I do, then it looks for updates), next is copy apps and data from the old account (long pause - I had to recover it), and after more setting up, finally LineageOS 17.1 is installed. It is a bit strange having Android 10 on a phone from 2015, but hey, I'm not complaining.

2020-07-06: recovery - next is sideload from adb, I connect the phone to my machine again, and verify that adb devices shows it

tingo@z30b:~/doc/Motorola/G3$ adb devices
List of devices attached
ZY22433RRV recovery

ok, on the phone I select Apply update, Apply from ADB.

on my machine i do

tingo@z30b:~/doc/Motorola/G3$ adb sideload lineage-17.1-20200703-nightly-osprey-signed.zip
Total xfer: 1.19x

and the phone screen confirms that the install succeded. Next up is open GApps: I repeat Apply from ADB, then

tingo@z30b:~/doc/Motorola/G3$ adb sideload open_gapps-arm-10.0-nano-20200630.zip
Total xfer: 1.00x

again the phone screen confirms successful installation of package.

I select "reboot system now" from the main recovery menu.

2020-07-06: recovery - Factory Reset, Format data

2020-07-06: recovery - hold Volume Down + Power, use menu to select recovery - nice I now have LineageOS recovery 17.1

2020-07-06: fastboot - install a new recovery

2020-07-06: I checked update son the phone this evening; there are 4 updates for LineageOS 17.1 (which is Android 10.0), but the info says "this update can't be installed with the updater app". Checking on the LineageOS wiki, it looks like osprey is supported again. But from the upgrade guide it looks like I need to install again, including a wipe.

2019-09-29: it looks like /e/ is supported on osprey. Still in beta, but interesting. It is pro privacy, Google free and more.

[tingo@localhost LineageOS]$ sudo adb push lineage-14.1-20171006-nightly-osprey-signed.zip /sdcard/

2017-10-09: unlock bootloader first I got the unlock data via $ sudo fastboot oem get_unlock_data next, I entered the data at Motorola's web site, and requested an unlock key, which I got via email. then I unlocked the device via $ sudo fastboot oem unlock UNIQUE_KEY on the screen of the G3 I can now read (in yellow text) "Device is UNLOCKED. Status Code: 3". cool.

FWIW, oem device-info isn't supported:

[tingo@localhost Moto_G_2015]$ sudo fastboot oem device-info

2017-06-06: package contents - the phone, a usb to micro usb cable, a "getting started" leaflet, and a thick "book" with warranty and various other legalese.

2017-06-06: I got a pickup message (text message) during the day, and picked up the package from Coop Prix Hausmannsgate on my way home from the office.

2017-06-02: CDON package - I got two messages (email), the package is delayed. When I checked the order tracking, I found out that the shipping company (PostNord) had managed to ship my package to Haugesund somehow. Oh well.

2017-05-31: the package from CDON.no was shipped.

2017-05-30: sale on CDON.no, I found a Motorola G3 for NOK 848.- including shipping. I could be a good backup phone, or just to play with LineageOS or something, so I ordered one. Motorola Moto G (3rd Gen) Black.
