2014-09-19: apps - I updated File Browser (1.5.0), Tidings (0.5.0) and Webcat (0.9.7).
2014-07-29: setting up work mail (MS Exchange) required me to first turn on unit (or is it device?) lock, before I could create the mail account. A five character / digit lock code was required for device lock, I do not know if this is a Jolla thing, or if it came from the mail server policies. Update: according to the user manual, it is "device lock".
2014-07-26: system update - SailfishOS version 1.0.8.19 Tahkalampi is available. I start the update from the notification screen, choosing to create a backup, then pulley down to download, which starts the backup process, then the download. After the download, I start the update via pulley down (battery level is unknown) the white "Sailfish" screen is shown, the update bar grows right. Finish, automatic reboot (complete with red led), and the new version is in:
tingo@kg-u35jc:~$ ssh nemo@10.1.161.16 nemo@10.1.161.16's password: Last login: Tue Jun 10 23:12:24 2014 from kg-core1.kg4.no ,--- | SailfishOS 1.0.8.19 (Tahkalampi) (armv7hl) '--- [nemo@Jolla ~]$
nothing more.
2014-07-15: Jolla summer software update announced. Sailfish OS update: Android apps now visible as separate windows on home screen, email settings: signatures sender names for separate email accounts, sync schedules per email account. Messages - unsent messages are autosaved when the app is backgrounded. calendar - recurring events can set end date. And more.
2014-06-10: Android apps - after the update, it looks like Android apps works on Wi-Fi again. I'll withhold my enthusiasm a bit until I had the Jolla oout and away from my home WLAN and back again. If they still work then, the joy erupts!
2014-06-10: system update - updating SailfishOS to version 1.0.7.16 Saapunki, by starting the update from the notification screen, choosing to create a backup, then pulley down to download, which starts the backup process, then the download. After the download, I start the update via pulley down (battery level is at 58%) and the white "Sailfish" screen is shown, the update bar grows right. Finish, automatic reboot (complete with red led), And 1.0.7.16 is in:
tingo@kg-core1$ ssh nemo@10.1.161.16 nemo@10.1.161.16's password: Last login: Tue Apr 29 20:16:29 2014 from kg-core1.kg4.no ,--- | SailfishOS 1.0.7.16 (Saapunki) (armv7hl) '--- [nemo@Jolla ~]$
very nice!
2014-06-10: system update notification: first I got a mail from Jolla (on the Jolla GMail account) with Subject: 4G LTE, new personalization options, Google contacts two-way sync and more. And after rebooting the device this afternoon (Wi-Fi hang again) I also got a notification on the Events screen "Systemoppdatering tilgjengelig - 1.0.7.16 er tilgjengelig".
2014-05-05: network - I installed the Wlan reset application (it is named "WiFi restart" in the menu) from OpenRepos (via Warehouse), hopefully I can use that the next time WLAN hangs itself.
2014-05-05: network - wlan problems again tonight. Symptoms: no WLAN icon, Settings, System, WLAN, pulley down "Connect to Internet"
says "Ops, fant ingen nettverk" (Oops, couldn't find any networks), an "search again" returns immediately with the same message. If I run 'ip addr' in Terminal,
it says that wlan0 has the "NO-CARRIER" flag in addition to "BROADCAST, MULTICAST, UP, LOWER_UP", and that state is "DORMANT" (whatever that means).
Also, wlan0 doesn't have an ip address. Found this: wlan / wifi reset without reboot,
so in Terminal I first did a devel-su
, then rmmod wlan
, and finally modprobe wlan
, and voila, WLAN is back, icon and all.
2014-04-30: network - wlan problems. Tonight the Jolla phone isn't on WLAN again - no WLAN icon, interface wlan0 doesn't have an ip address. Turning on and off flight mode doesn't change anything. reboot time again (via powerswitch off, powerswitch on). After the reboot, WLAN works again.
2014-04-29: hotfix - SailfishOS 1.0.5.19 is available, according to a phone notification. This seems to be a MMS-related hotfix. I the update from the notification screen, choosing to create a backup, then pulley down to download, which starts the backup process, then the download. After the download, I start the update via pulley down (battery level is at 51%) and the white "Sailfish" screen is shown, the update bar grows right. Finish, automatic reboot (complete with red led). And then I'm in 1.0.5.19:
tingo@kg-core1$ ssh nemo@10.1.161.16 nemo@10.1.161.16's password: Last login: Mon Apr 21 13:13:42 2014 from kg-core1.kg4.no NOTICE: Env value ignored QT_GSTREAMER_CAMERABIN_FLAGS=15 NOTICE: Env value ignored QT_WAYLAND_RESIZE_AFTER_SWAP=1 ,--- | SailfishOS 1.0.5.19 (Paarlampi) (armv7hl) '--- [nemo@Jolla ~]$
Cool.
2014-04-12: Ok, it seems like the Android app upgrade didn't work:
[nemo@Jolla ~]$ devel-su Password: [root@Jolla nemo]# systemctl status aliendalvik.service aliendalvik.service - Myriad Alien Dalvik Loaded: loaded (/lib/systemd/system/aliendalvik.service; static) Active: inactive (dead) CGroup: name=systemd:/system/aliendalvik.service
try to restart it:

and I get the update notification again. This time the update finished in seconds, and the aliendalvik.service is still running:

2014-04-11: SailfishOS 1.0.5.16 Paarlampi available: late in the evening, the phone has a notification for system update 1.0.5.16. Release notes.
2014-03-19: system update - updating SailfishOS to version 1.0.4.20 Ohijärvi by starting the update from the notification screen, choosing to create a backup, then pulley down to download, which starts the backup process, then the download. now you're ready for the update
2014-03-18: network - today WLAN suddenly didn't work anymore (status screen icon has a star over it), interface wlan0 doesn't have an ip address, turning on flight mode doesn't work, turning off and on WLAN doesn't work. Also Settings launches slowly or only in 1 out of 3 attempts. Reboot time, via Terminal and shutdown -r now. It turmed off, but didn't restart, I had to turn it on with the power switch. After the reboot everything is back to normal again.
2014-03-17: SailfishOS 1.0.4.20 has been released.
2014-03-03: app - Android - Expensify (org.me.mobiexpensifyg) updated to latest version (4.2.7), previous was 3.x something. Upgrade procedure: download new apk via APK downloader - uninstall old app via long press and "X", install new app from file browser. It kept my unsaved expenses and receipts, which is a good sign. In the new version, you refresh by dragging down on the expenses screen. A couple of refreshes on WLAN didn't work, but a refresh on mobile network did (eventually).
2014-03-03: one Android app (Expensify) doesn't have connectivity anymore. Lets try to restart the aliendalvik.service to see of that helps. status

2014-02-24: after returning from work this afternoon, the phone was not on either WLAN or mobile data network (I could call voice- tried my voicemail). No amount of fiddling (tried turning on / off WLAN, mobile network, and finally tried turning on flight mode) helped, the phone wasn't on any network, in terminal all network interfaces (except loop) was down. Also settings would only launch in about 1 out of 3 attempts, and launch slowly. Final solution - reboot.

2014-02-12: when I returned home from work today, I discovered that the phone was off the mobile network (even if the 2G icon was visible) - I couldn't call out. I also had some missed calls on my other phone (primary) , so the Jolla might have been offline half of the day. Hard to tell if this was caused by the primary phone running out of battery, but one fact remains: I could not call out with the Jolla. I better watch this closely.
2014-02-03: app - openrepos.net - I installed Mitakuuluu by downloading it with the browser, using the File Explorer to go to Downloads and selecting install from pulley. Realized that I wanted Warehouse instead, I located Warehouse for SailfishOS and installed it. I used Warehouse to uninstall Mitakuuluu.
2014-02-03: app - Yandex.Store still says network error when I try to logon, so I de-installed Android support and reinstalled it again. Yandex.Store still says network error. As before, logging in via browser (developer.store.yandex.com) works. added comment to connection problem for yandex store.
2014-02-03: the power consumption fix is still active:
[nemo@localhost ~]$ systemctl status tohd.service tohd.service Loaded: masked (/dev/null) Active: inactive (dead) Warning: Unit file changed on disk, 'systemctl --system daemon-reload' recommended.
Not sure about that last message. Anyway, I'll leave it like that for a few days, just to check on power consumption with and without this.
2014-02-03: settings - apps - Call: I turned off "fast call" (Hurtigoppringing).
2014-02-03: system update - this evening I checked manually for a system update, and there it was 1.0.3.8 (Naamankajärvi). There are also 10 (ten) other updates available. system update: create backup ("opprett sikkerhetskopi"), then pulley to download. After creating the backup, the download started. After the download finished (it took a while), it was pulley down to upgrade (install). The update started with a nice Sailfish logo in white, with a progress bar below. Screen blanked a few times before the progress bar finished; a short press on power button brought the screen on again. Then the LED turned RED and the phone rebooted. It now runs 1.0.3.8:
tingo@kg-core1$ ssh nemo@10.1.161.16 nemo@10.1.161.16's password: Last login: Fri Jan 31 11:23:08 2014 from kg-core1.kg4.no NOTICE: Env value ignored QT_GSTREAMER_CAMERABIN_FLAGS=15 ,--- | SailfishOS 1.0.3.8 (Naamankajärvi) (armv7hl) '--- [nemo@localhost ~]$
That is all.
2014-01-31: SailfishOS 1.0.3.8 has been released. Release notes.
2014-01-31: I try to fix power consumption, as described in Fix power consumption Other Half, first I login to the phone:
tingo@kg-core1$ ssh nemo@10.1.161.16 nemo@10.1.161.16's password: Last login: Fri Jan 31 11:22:59 2014 from kg-core1.kg4.no ,--- | SailfishOS 1.0.2.5 (Maadajävri) (armv7hl) '--- [nemo@localhost ~]$
Next I mask and stop the tohd.service as superuser:
[nemo@localhost ~]$ devel-su Password: [root@localhost nemo]# systemctl mask tohd.service ln -s '/dev/null' '/etc/systemd/system/tohd.service' [root@localhost nemo]# systemctl stop tohd.service
check
[root@localhost nemo]# systemctl status tohd.service tohd.service Loaded: masked (/dev/null) Active: failed (Result: exit-code) since Fri, 31 Jan 2014 11:25:14 +0100; 44s ago Main PID: 571 (code=exited, status=1/FAILURE) Jan 31 11:25:14 localhost tohd[571]: tohd[571] W: Got signal [15] Terminated Jan 31 11:25:14 localhost tohd[571]: tohd[571] W: TOHD exit 1 Warning: Journal has been rotated since unit was started. Log output is incomplete or unavailable. [root@localhost nemo]#
Good. When the power consumption bug is fixed, I can re-enable the service with systemctl unmask tohd.service; systemctl start tohd.service
.
2014-01-29: events - today the Events screen showed a system update - to version 1.0.2.5. As soon as I started Store, this notification disappeared - good. I also got a update notification for harbour-tidings, which is the application Tidings in the Store. Store, My apps showsd Tidings under update available ("Oppdatering tilgjengelig"), so I selected update. After two false starts ("problems with the Store") it updated Tidings.
2014-01-29: storage - I bought a 32 GB microSDHC card from Digital Impuls today. It is a Kingston Class 10, it cost me NOK 285.- and I plan to use the card in the Jolla phone.
2014-01-27: - app - Messages: the message list view should show the number of messages in each conversation (if more than one). Reported: message numbers in message list view?
2014-01-24: app - I created a Yandex Store user manually (developer.store.yandex.com) and verified that I could log in with it. Uninstalled Android support and reinstalled it - didn't work. stopped and started the aliendalvik service via
[nemo@localhost ~]$ devel-su Password: [root@localhost nemo]# systemctl stop aliendalvik.service [root@localhost nemo]# systemctl start aliendalvik.service
but it didn't work. Tried rebooting the Jolla and entering pin code promptly - it didn't work. Uninstalled Android support, rebooted the Jolla, installed Android support - on first start it looked like Yandex store quit, but it just took a long time to start. Still, it didn't work - I still get network fault.
2014-01-24: app - Yandex. store says network error ("Nettverksfeil") every time I try to log in. Known bug: connection problem for yandex store, Android apps fail to connect to internet after system update,
2014-01-23: app - the Calendar app has no Location field, and it doesn't show participants for meetings synchronized from Exchange. Ugh.
2014-01-19: I installed the Simple Weather application,
2014-01-19: applications I need / want: Metawatch (Strata) control - sowatch?, QR code scanner, e-book reader,

wow, a lot of filesystems.
2014-01-19: settings, developer mode, allow external access ("tillat eksterne tilkobling") and set a password.
2014-01-17: settings - I enabled developer mode, which gave me Terminal.
2014-01-17: applications - after the system update, installing Clock and Mail worked. Nice.
2014-01-17: system update - after playing with the phone a bit, I got "Systemoppdatering er tilgjengelige") - system updates are available. In Settings, about Product, it say "update available", and the System update application says: "Versjon 1.0.2-10.12.5.jolla", "SailfishOS 1.0.2.5 (armv7hl,release)". I selected "create backup" and then download update. After the upgrade it runs SailfishOS version 1.0.2.5 (Maadajävri).
2014-01-16: accounts - I set up an Exchange account too, I had to do a manual setup. Configured the account for email, Contacts and Calendar. 15 minutes for "high" period ("Toppintervall"), low period: off. High period starts at 08:00, ends at 16:30. Monday to friday, email sync: 3 days, calendar sync: 2 weeks, Conflicts: server has priority.
2014-01-16: applications - I set up a Jolla account, opened the Store and installed from "important Jolla apps": Notes, Calculator, Documents, Maps, Calendar, Media, (Clock), (Mail), the last two wouldn't install (problems with the store). Installed: Microsoft Exchange, Android support. And Yandex.Store got installed automatically (because of Android support?).
2014-01-16: sync data from my Nokia N9 (which still runs MeeGo Harmattan PR1.3). I found Jolla: How To Sync With Nokia N9, and tried that on my virgin Jolla phone. It didn't work, the first time I tried (with Contacts only) it said it had synced, but there was nothing in "People". I tried with the others too; didn't work. Later it claims it can't connect. Oh well.
2014-01-16: I tracked down the package and got it.
2013-12-19: I ordered a Jolla phone from their store. the prices was Euro 321.77 + Euro 12.10 for shipping, a total of Euro 333.87, which is about NOK 2787,81.
