History
2021-09-17: I re-created this page on my self-hosted web server.
2016-11-18: plugging the adapter into my FreeBSD workstation:
tingo@kg-core1$ uname -a FreeBSD kg-core1.kg4.no 9.3-STABLE FreeBSD 9.3-STABLE #3 r304838: Fri Aug 26 12:11:25 CEST 2016 root@kg-core1.kg4.no:/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/GENERIC amd64
from /var/log/messages:
Nov 18 17:14:42 kg-core1 kernel: ugen3.6: <FTDI> at usbus3 Nov 18 17:14:42 kg-core1 kernel: uftdi1: <FT230X Basic UART> on usbus3
find the tty port it uses:
root@kg-core1# sysctl dev.uftdi.1.ttyname dev.uftdi.1.ttyname: U1
is it there?
root@kg-core1# ls -l /dev/ttyU1* crw-rw---- 1 root operator 0xdd Nov 18 17:14 /dev/ttyU1 crw-rw---- 1 root operator 0xde Nov 18 17:14 /dev/ttyU1.init crw-rw---- 1 root operator 0xdf Nov 18 17:14 /dev/ttyU1.lock
yes - good.
2016-11-17: I picked up the package from my local PIB (Extra Trondheimsveien) on my way home from work. Icluded with the adapter is a usb to micro-usb cable.
2016-11-16: I get a pick-up-note in my physical mailbox.
2016-10-09: there was a sale at Elektor, so I ordered one Universal Serial to USB with UART Breakout (SKU 17599) for USD 17.- and another item.
