History / work log
2021-09-06: I re-created this page on my self-hosted web server.
2020-10-03: connected up my Orange Pi Zero (wired network), and booted it. Still works:

2017-10-13: second try - I connected it to a usb charger and to a wired network (we have a cable that goes to one of the switch ports on our access point). The AP (access point) runs OpenWRT, so using the command
# swconfig dev switch0 show
and knowledge that the Ethernet interface on it was only 100 Mbps, I managed to find the two ports which had devices connected at 100 Mbps. One was a RPi (MAC addr starts with 0827), the other one has MAC addr 02:42:cd:17:b9:c9. Then I looked at our DHCP saerver and got the ip address for that MAC address from the
>show ip dhcp bind
command. Then I could ping and ssh to the machine.
2017-10-13: first boot - I connected it to my laptop with a usb to microusb cable. The Pi Zero booted, unfortunately, it didn't show up as a serial port over usb on my laptop.
2017-10-13: armbian - the images available are based on Ubuntu, not Debian. I downloaded Armbian_5.33.171013_Orangepizero_Ubuntu_xenial_next_4.13.5.7z, extracted it and wrote it to a 16 GB microSD card with Etcher.
2017-10-13: case - I had to make a hole (ok, a vertical cut then) in the case between the hole for the microusb connector (labeled "OTG") and the hole for the microSD card for the antenna cable.
2017-10-12: went by Digital Impuls and bought a 140796 Orange Pi Zero set for NOK 399.- This includes the Orange Pi Zero board, and expansion board and a case.
