History
2021-07-26: I re-created this page on my self-hosted web server.
2021-01-07: storage - I tested an AData SX8200 Pro 1TB installed in a Delock DEL-89929 and inserted it in the PCIe x16 slot (this machine has PCIe x16 x 1, x1 x 1). Unfortunately, the card was not detected. Tested under FreeBSD 11, 13-current and OpenBSD 6.8. Perhaps a PCIe problem?
2021-01-07: storage - I tested an AData SX8200 Pro 1TB installed in a Icy Box IB-PCI208 and inserted it in the PCIe x16 slot (this machine has PCIe x16 x 1, x1 x 1). Unfortunately, the card was not detected. Tested under FreeBSD 11, 13-current and OpenBSD 6.8. Perhaps a PCIe problem?
2020-07-26: storage - I installed a Corsair Force LE 240GB SSD (2.5 inch), it shows up as ada0. smartctl info
root@kg-vm5# smartctl -i /dev/ada0 smartctl 7.1 2019-12-30 r5022 [FreeBSD 11.4-RELEASE-p1 amd64] (local build) Copyright (C) 2002-19, Bruce Allen, Christian Franke, www.smartmontools.org === START OF INFORMATION SECTION === Device Model: Corsair Force LE SSD Serial Number: 164180190001041611D4 Firmware Version: SAFC12.2 User Capacity: 240,057,409,536 bytes [240 GB] Sector Size: 512 bytes logical/physical Rotation Rate: Solid State Device Form Factor: 2.5 inches Device is: Not in smartctl database [for details use: -P showall] ATA Version is: ACS-2 (minor revision not indicated) SATA Version is: SATA 3.1, 6.0 Gb/s (current: 6.0 Gb/s) Local Time is: Sun Jul 26 14:41:45 2020 CEST SMART support is: Available - device has SMART capability. ok
2020-07-18: storage - the machine has a sata power cable with two plugs on, attached to the storage "cage" and connected to the motherboard. The motherboard also has two sata connectors, so all that is needed is sata cables and sata storage devices. And screws.
2020-07-18: remove cage (ok mounting board for storage devices). You need to disconnect the optical drive first, and push it out through the front hole. Then there are four screws (Torx something) that holds the cage.
2020-06-13: memory info - (from dmidecode) DIMM is Samsung M378A1K43CB2-CTD.
2020-06-11: bios upgrade - upgraded from F.10 to F.41
2020-06-11: bios upgrade - turns out that it was impossible to extract the needed files from the .exe file with the bios update (I only got another .exe file out of it), also the "create usb upgrade stick on another (windows) computer" didn't work on my win7 machine. In the end, I installed win10 on the machine from the preinstall, and ran the upgrade there.
2020-06-11: the package arrived (I got a physical not in my mail) and I fetched it from PIB Extra Trondheimsveien in the afternoon. Large box, but not too heavy - mostly air. contents:
1 x minitower 1 x mains lead 1 x keyboard (usb) 1 x mouse (usb)
the minitower case has a dent in a corner on the bac, otherwise it looks ok.
2020-06-06: from Elkjøp Outlet I ordered a machine for NOK 2497.- shipping included:
