History
2018-11-10:bios - update - I put files from the "DOS Flash" directory in sp40411 in a subdirectory \fdos\d530-b on the FreeDOS usb stick, booted without drivers and ran
flshlite.exe /l:us /f flsh.cpu default
it claims to have updated BIOS. Yep - bios is now v2.44.
2018-11-10: floppy controller - I ran TestFDC from a FreeDOS usb stick (lot's of room for reports). Here is the report
tingo@kg-core1$ date; echo "TestFDC";cat D530.TXT Sat Nov 10 19:07:34 CET 2018 TestFDC Report on FDC capabilities, issued 10/11/2018 18:02:23: Single-Density at 250 kbps ............................ Passed Single-Density at 300 kbps ............................ Not tested Single-Density at 500 kbps ............................ Passed Double-Density at 250 kbps ............................ Passed Double-Density at 300 kbps ............................ Not tested Double-Density at 500 kbps ............................ Passed Double-Density at 250 kbps / 128 byte sectors ......... Failed Double-Density at 300 kbps / 128 byte sectors ......... Not tested Double-Density at 500 kbps / 128 byte sectors ......... Failed
looks ok at least.
2018-11-10: bios - newest version is version 2.44 Rev. A from August 14, 2008 in SP40411.
2018-11-10: testing - the machine boots, complains about time and date (BIOS battery probably dead), but works. I can run TestFDC from floppy drive A: (3.5 inch) too. Nice.
2018-11-10: on autumn "dugnad" I rescued this machine. Soon as I saw that it was a Pentium 4 machine and had a (3.5 inch) floppy drive, I wondered if this could be my next floppy media machine.
