2019-12-18: scrub - latest result for pool storage
root@kg-f2# zpool status storage pool: storage state: ONLINE status: One or more devices are configured to use a non-native block size. Expect reduced performance. action: Replace affected devices with devices that support the configured block size, or migrate data to a properly configured pool. scan: scrub repaired 0 in 3h43m with 0 errors on Wed Dec 18 07:09:05 2019 config: NAME STATE READ WRITE CKSUM storage ONLINE 0 0 0 raidz1-0 ONLINE 0 0 0 ada3 ONLINE 0 0 0 ada4 ONLINE 0 0 0 ada5 ONLINE 0 0 0 ada6 ONLINE 0 0 0 block size: 512B configured, 4096B native ada0 ONLINE 0 0 0 errors: No known data errors

2019-12-05: check the value of vfs.zfs.arc_max:
root@kg-f2# sysctl vfs.zfs.arc_max vfs.zfs.arc_max: 2147483648
comment out the line in /boot/loader.conf, then reboot the machine
the new value is
root@kg-f2# sysctl vfs.zfs.arc_max vfs.zfs.arc_max: 7086288896
now, let's see if this has any negative effects in the future.
2019-12-05: /boot/loader contains
root@kg-f2# more /boot/loader.conf ahci_load="YES" zfs_load="YES" vfs.root.mountfrom="zfs:zroot" vfs.zfs.arc_max="2048M" siis_load="YES" amdtemp_load="YES" # testing without MSI hw.pci.enable_msix="0" hw.pci.enable_msi="0"
perhaps I could remove the vfs.zfs.arc_max line, the machine has 8 GB memory (and has had that for a few years now).
