2015-11-14: ada1p4 - change to new firewall noted in /var/log/messages:
Nov 14 13:48:26 kg-v7 kernel: arp: 10.1.10.1 moved from 00:10:4b:e3:38:8b to 80:ee:73:60:61:0c on re0
that's all.
2015-07-01: ada1p4 - pkg - create a package of the (installed) py27-ply port:
root@kg-v7# pkg create -o /zs/ py27-ply Creating package for py27-ply-3.4 root@kg-v7# ll /zs/py27* -rw-r--r-- 1 root wheel 103124 Jul 1 23:23 /zs/py27-ply-3.4.txz
cool.
2015-06-22: ada1p4 - ports - trying to install Chromium:

Hmm,
root@kg-v7# uname -a FreeBSD kg-v7.kg4.no 10.1-STABLE FreeBSD 10.1-STABLE #0 r278322: Fri Feb 6 21:36:01 CET 2015 root@kg-v7.kg4.no:/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/GENERIC amd64
I wonder why? Ah, of course. I need to rebuild Python27 with the SEM=on option. Then Chromium builds:
root@kg-v7# make DISABLE_VULNERABILITIES=yes install clean [...] ====> Compressing man pages (compress-man) ===> Installing for chromium-42.0.2311.135 ===> Checking if chromium already installed ===> Registering installation for chromium-42.0.2311.135 Installing chromium-42.0.2311.135... ===> SECURITY REPORT: This port has installed the following files which may act as network servers and may therefore pose a remote security risk to the system. /usr/local/share/chromium/chrome If there are vulnerabilities in these programs there may be a security risk to the system. ok.
2015-05-08: ada1p4 - after looking at vt(4), I wonder if I can change console to vt. It is currently sc:
root@kg-v7# sysctl kern.vty kern.vty: sc
if I set kern.vty=vt in /boot/loader.conf, then what? Ok, after a boot, I get a very ugly textmode, dmesg says:
VT: running with driver "vga".
and

2015-04-01: ada1p4 - ports - libdrm failure - ok, this was basically /usr/ports/UPDATING entry 20140909:
AFFECTS: users seeing build errors about missing *.la files AUTHOR: tijl@FreeBSD.org We are in the process of adjusting or, if possible, removing libtool archives (*.la files) from all ports because they can otherwise cause overlinking between packages. This is the problem where in the dependency chain A->B->C an extra link is added from A to C even if A does not use C directly. This makes some updates to port C expensive because then both A and B have to be rebuilt instead of just B. This is mostly behind the scenes work that you won't notice. In fact most ports have already been converted. You may however run into build errors about missing *.la files if a port update in the past went wrong and left behind *.la files with references to other *.la files that are no longer there. In this case, please run the following command: find /usr/local/lib -name '*.la' | xargs grep -l 'libfoo\.la' | xargs pkg which (Replace libfoo\.la with the *.la file that is missing.) This command will print a list of *.la files that refer to the missing *.la file and what package they belong to. First, where it says "not found in the database", remove the *.la file. After removing all such files, where it says "installed by package X", rebuild X. Eventually the list printed by that command will be empty and the build error should be gone.
So I had to run
# find /usr/local/lib -name '*.la' | xargs grep -l 'libfontconfig\.la' | xargs pkg which
which gave me a long list of ports. Then I had to upgrade a few (like a handful) of them one by one ('portupgrade portname') until I could build libdrm again.

Nope. I'll resort to fixing this in the FreeBSD-v5.vbox file. Before:
tingo@kg-v7$ grep v5-music vbox/FreeBSD-v5/FreeBSD-v5.vbox <HardDisk uuid="{a35d30b2-2ff0-40f2-8778-8976c2f5a95b}" location="/usr/home/tingo/VirtualBox VMs/FreeBSD-v5/v5-music.vdi" format="VDI" type="Normal"/>
after

check with list:

ok, looks better now.
2015-02-07: ada1p4 - see if the machine is automatically recognized if I try create and register:

Ok, that didn't work. Let me try to wrangle it:
tingo@kg-v7$ cd vbox tingo@kg-v7$ mv FreeBSD-v5 FreeBSD-v5_org tingo@kg-v7$ cd
now retry create:
tingo@kg-v7$ VBoxManage createvm --name FreeBSD-v5 --register Virtual machine 'FreeBSD-v5' is created and registered. UUID: 3909e2ac-bf18-4c76-a740-ec5d72475079 Settings file: '/home/tingo/vbox/FreeBSD-v5/FreeBSD-v5.vbox'
that worked nicely. And I can list it:
tingo@kg-v7$ VBoxManage list vms "FreeBSD-v5" {3909e2ac-bf18-4c76-a740-ec5d72475079}
So, is it as simple as renaming directories again?
tingo@kg-v7$ cd vbox tingo@kg-v7$ mv FreeBSD-v5 FreeBSD-v5_new tingo@kg-v7$ mv FreeBSD-v5_org FreeBSD-v5 tingo@kg-v7$ cd
can I still list it?

2015-02-06: ada1p4 - update sources via subversion:
root@kg-v7# cd /usr/src root@kg-v7# svn up [...] U crypto/openssl/ACKNOWLEDGMENTS U . Updated to revision 278322.
check what we got:
root@kg-v7# egrep "^BRANCH|^REVISION" /usr/src/sys/conf/newvers.sh REVISION="10.1" BRANCH="STABLE"
looks good.
2015-02-06: ada1p4 - configure VirtualBox. add the kernel driver to /boot/loader.conf:
root@kg-v7# more /boot/loader.conf aibs_load="YES" vboxdrv_load="YES"
(the last line). Doesn't look like I can load it:
root@kg-v7# kldload vboxdrv kldload: can't load vboxdrv: Exec format error
maybe I need to reboot. Set up bridged networking. add to /etc/rc.conf:
# VirtualBox - bridged networking
vboxnet_enable="YES"
then run
root@kg-v7# service vboxnet start /usr/local/etc/rc.d/vboxnet: WARNING: Can't load vboxnetflt module.
Hmm, a reboot looks more and more required now. From /var/log/messages:
Feb 6 18:30:35 kg-v7 kernel: KLD vboxdrv.ko: depends on kernel - not available or version mismatch Feb 6 18:30:35 kg-v7 kernel: linker_load_file: Unsupported file type Feb 6 18:33:23 kg-v7 tingo: /usr/local/etc/rc.d/vboxnet: WARNING: Can't load vboxnetflt module. Feb 6 18:33:23 kg-v7 kernel: KLD vboxnetflt.ko: depends on kernel - not available or version mismatch Feb 6 18:33:23 kg-v7 kernel: linker_load_file: Unsupported file type
strange, kernel sources are in place.
root@kg-v7# egrep "^BRANCH|^REVISION" /usr/src/sys/conf/newvers.sh REVISION="10.0" BRANCH="STABLE"
ok, sources are for a different version. Finally, add my user to the vboxusers group:
root@kg-v7# pw groupmod vboxusers -m tingo
done.
2015-02-05: ada1p4 - ports - try to install virtualbox-ose-4.3.20_4, which worked after a bit of wrangling with several ports.
2015-02-05: ada1p4 - ports - install virtualbox-ose-4.3.18, but libvncserver fails, so I need to portsnap fetch; portsnap update
. Afterwards, check for hal:
root@kg-v7# ls -ld /usr/ports/sysutils/hal* drwxr-xr-x 3 root wheel 512 Feb 5 23:42 /usr/ports/sysutils/hal drwxr-xr-x 3 root wheel 512 Apr 30 2014 /usr/ports/sysutils/hal-info drwxr-xr-x 3 root wheel 512 Oct 25 21:02 /usr/ports/sysutils/hal_
yep, it tries to creep back in again, I will have none of it:
root@kg-v7# rm -rf /usr/ports/sysutils/hal_ root@kg-v7# mv /usr/ports/sysutils/hal /usr/ports/sysutils/hal_
saved.
