This is the middle bracket, Drive bracket - I removed the little lockscrew at the front and loosened the two thumscrews at the back, disconnected power and sata cables from the two drives and took out the bracket. Removed the four screws that holds the drive, took it out and verified the serial number.

old drive, serial number: W1F15V48, firmware: CC4B, WWN: 5000C50053671A65.
new drive, serial number: Z50063CX, firmware: CC43, WWN: not written on drive.

Replaced the drive, screwed the drive bracket back in and reconnected cables.

2015-01-24: preparing to replace ada2 and ada5. I powered down the machine from the gui, but had to force it off with the power button after a while. Removing four thumbscrews and taking the case lid / cover off.

2015-01-18: update - ada2 and ada5 are dead now. I should replace them and rebuild the pool soon.

2014-10-18: I suspect that the current ada5 drive is dying, and that it is making the zfs raid very slow, so I will replace it.

2014-09-17: replaced hard drive ada4.

2014-08-29: replaced hard drive ada1.

2014-08-29: spare hard drives - since at least one of the hard drives has failed, I bought some new ones: 4 x Seagate Barracuda 3TB (model ST3000DM001) at NOK 875.- each from Digital Impuls (varenr. 116831). Total cost: NOK 3500.-

2014-07-08: uefi - BIOS version 0502 is now available, with note "Improve system stability".

2014-05-11: version 0305 of UEFI / BIOS is still the newest version. Good.

2012-12-06: dns / dhcp setup: the machine is going to be called "f5". Edited files for bind and dhcpd accordingly.

2012-12-05: UEFI / BIOS: there is a new version available, 0305, dated 2012.08.17, with the following notes: 1.Improve system stability. 2.Enhance compatibility with some USB devices. Since the mothervoard came with 0205, labeled as "First release bios" and released on 2012.04.13, I decided to upgrade. I used the EZ Flash 2 utility from UEFI, with the new ROM file on a usb memory stick. After the upgrade it reports BIOS Version as 0305 x64, and Build Date as 08/07/2012.

2012-12-05: first boot. Booted to UEFI, checked the version. It reports BIOS Version as 0205 x64, and Build Date as 04/06/2012. It reports the CPU as AMD C-60 APU with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics, speed 1000 Mhz. For memory, it reports 16384 MB (DDR3) @ 1066 MHz. At the bottom of the Main screen (in Advanced mode) it says "Version 2.00.1201. Copyright (C) 2010 American Megatrends, Inc.". On the Advanced screen, CPU Configuration, it says Microcode Patch level: 500010d. On Advanced \ SATA Configuration, I changed Onchip SATA Type to "AHCI" (it was "IDE").

2012-12-05: installation continued. I used a 4-pin molex to 2 x sata power connector adapter that I had lying about to power the two remaining hard drives. I bought 4 x 30cm sata cables (NOK 60.- each from Digital Impuls, a total of NOK 240.-) and connected up the four remaining hard drives. This concludes the hardware installation.

2012-12-04: installation. I started by installing the motherboard (ok, 4 standoffs first). There was only three screws, so the back left hole on the motherboard is missing a screw. Next I installed the power supply by sliding it in from the right side of the chassis, and securing it with the three screws provided. Connected up the front usb ports (usb 2.0 only on this motherboard), the power switch and hard drive LED. Connected the PSU cables, tied down the cables a bit, mounted the hard drives (two in each bracket) in the three brackets, and mounted the brackets into the chassis. Connected power cables to the first four drives (I need a couple of normal-to-sata power connector adapters) and the sata cable for the two first drives. I need four more sata cables. Hard drive numbering (from the left, when seen from the front of the chassis):

sata 1 - hd 1
sata 2 - hd 2
sata 3 - hd 3
sata 4 - hd 4
sata 5 - hd 5
sata 6 - hd 6

2012-12-04: I fetched the package from NetOnNet at the post office (Sofienberg). I also paid and fetched the package (actually two packages) from ps.no. The total including shipping was NOK 7149,61.

2012-11-30: I ordered 1 x chassis Fractal Design Node 304 at NOK 649.- and 1 x psu Corsair CX430 at NOK 329.- from NetOnNet. Free shipping (that was nice) gives a total of NOK 978.-. From ps.no I ordered 1 x motherboard Asus C60M1-I at NOK 587.- 2 x memory modules 8GB DDR3 PC3-10660 at NOK 257.- each and 6 x hard drives Seagate 3.0TB Barracuda SATA 6GB/ s 7200rpm 64MB 3.5 inch at NOK 979.- each. The total of that is NOK 6975.- without shipping and handling.
