History

2026-02-04: BIOS - try the 3.50 version instead. Yes, that one works.

2026-02-04: BIOS - after the upgrade, FreeBSD no longer boots, bnor does the FreeBSD installer. bummer.

2026-02-04: BIOS - I downloaded latest version - 4.03 and put on a fat32 usb stick, put the usb stick in the machine, rebooted and went into BIOs, selected instant flash - it found the update file at once, so "Update", it rebooted and started the update - with keyboard ad mouse locked. After the bios update was finsied, it rebooted.

2026-02-02: power on - connected up the Dell U2410f via DP to DP on the B580 and powered on the machine. It goes straight into BIOS. Connected a usb keyboard, and I can navigate in BIOS. Nice.

2026-02-02: graphics card - I installed the B580 card, and also installed a 8-pin PCIe cable from the PSU to the card.

2026-02-02: storage - I installed a Kingston NV3 PCIe 4.0 NVMe M.2 1 TB that I had laying around.

2026-02-02: psu - I installed cables for motherboard power (two).

2026-02-02: case - I installed the motherboard in the case, using 5 screws (the last two scre posts are outside of the motherboard).

2026-02-02: motherboard - I installed the CPU and the CPU cooler. AM5 socket CPUs have this funny operation where the plastic cover over the cpu socket sits there until it pops off when you close the socket lever. I installed DIMM's in the DIMM slots.

2026-02-02: case - I installed the USB-C cable into the case. Removed the 2.5 inch drive bracket, slid in the psu with the fan pointing down, and secured with the screws that came with the psu.

2026-02-02: I received a pickup message (text and email) and picked up the Multicom package at PostNord Extra Trondheimsveien in the afternoon.
