2007-12-16: after installing the v4l-dvb-kernel as described here and rebooting, the device was detected. Here are the lines from 'dmesg | grep em2 > file.txt'. Still can't find any channels, probably because of the inferior antenna.
2007-12-16: Finished upgrading to Xubuntu 7.10. Device not detected on boot. lsusb output:

2007-12-16: Upgraded to Xubuntu 7.04 - device still not detected. Proceeding with upgrade to next version.
