I have a Cherry G84-4100PTMNO /04 keyboard, it is not detected when I plug it in.
2015-05-09: I currently have Norwegian language and US keyboard layout:
tingo@kg-novena:~$ localectl status System Locale: LANG=nb_NO.UTF-8 VC Keymap: n/a X11 Layout: us X11 Model: pc105
Fix keyboard first. From Debian wiki keyboard:
tingo@kg-novena:~$ sudo dpkg-reconfigure keyboard-configuration update-rc.d: warning: start and stop actions are no longer supported; falling back to defaults update-rc.d: warning: start and stop actions are no longer supported; falling back to defaults
(got a text menu first to chose keyboard type, then layout)
tingo@kg-novena:~$ localectl status System Locale: LANG=nb_NO.UTF-8 VC Keymap: n/a X11 Layout: no X11 Model: pc105
good. Now restart the keyboard-setup service:
tingo@kg-novena:~$ sudo service keyboard-setup restart
Xorg didn't react to that. Oh well.
Update locale to be US English:
tingo@kg-novena:~$ more /etc/default/locale # File generated by update-locale LANG=nb_NO.UTF-8 tingo@kg-novena:~$ sudo update-locale LANG=en_US.UTF-8 tingo@kg-novena:~$ more /etc/default/locale # File generated by update-locale LANG=en_US.UTF-8
good. Logging out from Xorg and in again didn't help (setxkbmap no in Xorg works).
2015-05-07: add myself to the 'adm' group so I can read logfiles:
tingo@kg-novena:~$ ll /var/log/messages /var/log/syslog -rw-r----- 1 root adm 176966 mai 7 21:27 /var/log/messages -rw-r----- 1 root adm 382034 mai 7 21:27 /var/log/syslog
my user has:
tingo@kg-novena:~$ id uid=1000(tingo) gid=1000(tingo) grupper=1000(tingo),20(dialout),27(sudo),29(audio),44(video),102(systemd-journal),103(systemd-timesync),104(systemd-network),105(systemd-resolve),111(scanner),115(bluetooth),116(pulse),117(pulse-access),121(i2c)
add my user to the 'adm' group:
tingo@kg-novena:~$ sudo usermod -a -G adm tingo
verify:
tingo@kg-novena:~$ id tingo uid=1000(tingo) gid=1000(tingo) grupper=1000(tingo),4(adm),20(dialout),27(sudo),29(audio),44(video),102(systemd-journal),103(systemd-timesync),104(systemd-network),105(systemd-resolve),111(scanner),115(bluetooth),116(pulse),117(pulse-access),121(i2c)
good.
2015-05-06: well, that didn't help, after a reboot I still have a graphical login. At least the desktop is Xfce (4.10).
2015-05-06: after update I now have:
tingo@kg-novena:~$ cat /etc/debian_version 8.0 tingo@kg-novena:~$ uname -a Linux kg-novena.kg4.no 3.19.0-00270-g3d69696 #654 SMP PREEMPT Mon May 4 13:01:40 SGT 2015 armv7l GNU/Linux
good.

done. Fix a few things:
tingo@kg-novena:~$ systemctl status lightdm.service ● lightdm.service - Light Display Manager Loaded: loaded (/lib/systemd/system/lightdm.service; enabled) Active: inactive (dead) Docs: man:lightdm(1)
Hmm, no,I don't want graphical logins at this time.
tingo@kg-novena:~$ sudo systemctl disable lightdm.service [sudo] password for tingo: Synchronizing state for lightdm.service with sysvinit using update-rc.d... verify:
tingo@kg-novena:~$ sudo systemctl status lightdm.service ● lightdm.service - Light Display Manager Loaded: loaded (/lib/systemd/system/lightdm.service; static) Active: inactive (dead) Docs: man:lightdm(1)

2015-05-06: try to get a WiFi connection:
$ sudo ip link set wlan0 up
but I have no iw tools. Hmm,ok, it looks like NetWorkManager is installed, I have nmtui.
$ nmtui
starts a text user interface and allows me to select the correct wilreless SSID and connect. Afterwards, I just quit nmtui. Nice!
